Scent Trail Video Review

Sometime back, I received a most lovely boxed gift, tied with a cute ribbon from Scent Trail (love that name).  Without opening, there was this lovely waft of essential oils.  Inside were two gorgeous soaps, beautifully crafted by hand.  Gosh, there really is something special about something, lovingly made by hand isn’t there?

I haven’t got around to using them yet, but that is the plan over the next few days.

Silk Route, has a gorgeous peachy colour and this classy, feminine yet quite contemporary rosy aroma.  Not rose in the true sense of the word but more like rose with a twist of something (not sure what that something is though – but it is nice).  There is another little twist with this soap… it contains silk!

The other one, Lavender & Patchouli, contains rich olive oil and shea butter.  I really like the aroma of this one.  It is fresh and clean, slightly floral but with an earthy undertone – sort of girly-hippy I suppose is a good way of describing the scent.

What I love about them is they are generous-sized bars with minimal packaging (bars in bikinis), so there’s been careful thought gone into reducing waste.  The other thing, that I really enjoy, is their finish.  They are chunky, not too neat and you can sort of see the work that’s gone into them, which gives a sense of their journey into existence.  They are raw beauty and I like that.  It’s honest and it kind of gives them a personality.

But what are they like to use?

As with most bar soaps, they take a bit of time to get going but once they spring to life….  the lather is nothing like the lather you get from regular soap.  Both produced the richest, creamiest and most luxurious lather you can imagine, which rinsed away beautifully leaving the skin feeling clean & soft.

I think many of us have experienced a sort of tightening sensation and a feeling of dryness after using soap, but these soaps are different.  They seem to work with the skin.  They seem to respect it.  You can really feel an extra softness with Silk Road (that is perhaps from the silk content).

The natural scents from the essential oils tend to do their work while in use and gives you lovely spa-like feeling.  I personally preferred the Lavender and Patchouli (brought out the inner hippy in me).  However, because of the nature of essential oils, the scents are subtle and don’t fragrance the skin as such, but instead, they leave an incredible freshness.  A really clean sort of smell that is just lovely! There’d no battle with any additional scents applied after using (such as moisturisers, perfume etc…).  Plus, I doubt you would get that same luxury-spa-like-feel-good sensation if they were scented with anything other than natural essential oils.

So, what I loved…

  • Generous sizes
  • Made by two clever hands – I found that special
  • Chunky, not too neat, ‘raw beauty’ appearance
  • Simple, understated packaging (‘Bars In Bikinis’)
  • Spa-a-like subtle scents from the essential oils (loved the Lavender & Patchouli)
  • Made from natural ingredients
  • Ooh… that rich, creamy, luxurious lather (to die for) – the Lavender & Patchouli’s lather is so rich and dense
  • Leaves the skin feeling so clean, so soft (especially Silk Route) and not at all tight

Points to note:

The scents are beautiful and high-end (I think essential oils do that to products) however, they don’t fragrance the skin – in the true sense.  It is more like a long-lasting freshness to the skin (this does linger) and an incredible feel-good sensation you get when in using them, that together with that rich lather, is very spa-like.

It is best not to look at these as simple bars of soap.  Think of them as more like luxurious treats, which delight the senses of touch, with that kick-ass lather, and the lovely, feel-good, high-end, uplifting aroma from the essential oil.  Ah…….
